Sometimes creating a meal isn’t about the recipe but it’s about the experience. I like to cook because I enjoy the feeling or the experience it creates. And nothing moves me more than a Sunday morning breakfast. These Buttermilk Waffles with Honey made me want to take it slow and enjoy every bite.
We have a Sunday morning ritual in my house! We plan out a big breakfast, watch our favorite Sunday morning news show and relax. By now the kids are already bored and planning their day — or getting on their devices and getting lost for hours. It’s kind of ok with us because we like to take it slow on a Sunday morning.
When it’s my turn to make Sunday breakfast, I usually go with pancakes or waffles. This Buttermilk Waffle recipe can also be used for pancakes. Even though it takes longer than the boxed version, it’s way better. I also like to experiment with different toppings too. For this one, I drizzled some honey and added some cacao nibs, which tast like chocolate.
Buttermilk Waffles with Honey
1 cup Flour
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Baking Soda
1/8 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 cup Buttermilk
2 tablespoons Butter, melted
Honey for drizzling
Sift the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt in a bowl
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk and vanilla extract
Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and combine, set aside for 15 minutes
In the meantime, melt butter in a saucepan
Add the butter to the mixture
Pour the waffle mixture into your waffle machine and wait for the chirping bird (or to your desired doneness)
Drizzle some fresh, local honey on top.
Add frozen fruit, mint and some cacao nibs to the top
Enjoy your waffles with a little coffee, tea or juice. This makes the perfect Sunday morning breakfast!
